Network infrastructure

Our servers are located to the two most corporate data centres in the UK (Telehouse and Bluesquare), Germany (Nuremberg) and Greece (Forthnet & Mednautilus).

At the first days of April 2006 Guru-host started hosting servers in Athens, Greece too allowing us to implement a great disaster plan for high availability servers plus the extra option for European clients to host their web sites and applications somewhere in the UK or Germany.

Telehouse Europe is the longest established provider of reliable and secure data centre facilities. The combination of over 18 years experience, financial stability and ongoing investment in our facilities gives our clients ultimate reliability and business continuity.

Telehouse datacentre in the UKTelehouse was the original location of the London Internet Exchange, which is one of the two or three largest Internet hubs in the world. As LINX handles a large proportion of UK Internet traffic and the networks of our members provide access to the majority of world Internet routes, we have to have a very close and symbiotic relationship with the colocation facilities that support our switching and routing equipment suites.

Nine Facts About Telehouse

  1. Telehouse conceived, constructed and managed Europe’s first purpose-built data centre in the Docklands in 1990.

  2. Telehouse provides 30,000m2 of secure colocation space in Europe, of which 20,000m2 is in the UK. More than 85% of this space is currently utilised by its customers, making Telehouse the UK’s most ‘in-demand’ colocation provider.

  3. Telehouse Europe has over 700 customers representing all business sectors and every size of organisation worldwide.

  4. Five out of seven of the UK’s largest Internet exchanges all use Telehouse colocation facilities.

  5. Telehouse is the primary site for the London Internet Exchange (LINX). LINX currently transmits a total average of 134Gbs per second which is more data than any other independent Internet hub globally.

  6. Telehouse is the only large colocation provider in the UK to have remained profitable over the past 12 years.

  7. The cooling capacity of Telehouse’s data centre in the Docklands is equal to that of 60,000 fridges.

  8. 20,000m of cabling are laid in Telehouse’s UK data centres every month. This is equivalent to 240km, a distance of nearly six London Marathons, of cable being laid every year.

  9. Telehouse has 100 years of collective security experience among its professional security staff.

Nuremberg data center park has several corporate high-capacity data centers in that area as well as a datacenter park in Falkenstein, Vogtl which both are connected to each other. There are many redundant Internet connections to the largest German internet exchange DE-CIX, as well as direct connection to Telekom. This ensures smooth operation of your Internet presence regardless the hosting package as long as it is hosted within Germany. Guru-host offer at the moment shared hosting (based on Directadmin) and dedicated servers managed or unmanaged in this park. A detailed specification of the data center park is given below:

MedNautilus Greece sites encompass an area of more than 8000 m2 and are situated in Koropi and Metamorphosis in Attica and in Chania on the island of Crete. Guru-host offer only dedicated server hosting services in Mednautilus.
The MedNautilus Greece network (Aegean Network) comprises a portion of the MedNautilus Submarine Network .
Specifically, the Aegean network has three landing points (Aghia Marina, Vravrona and Chania) and two landing stations in Koropi and Chania, Crete.
It is a ring, therefore fully protected against any operational problems. MedNautilus guarantees network availability of 99,99%.
In the area of Attica, the Koropi landing station is interconnected with the Metamorphosis data center through use of a double routing fiber-optic connection. Our Metamorphosis, Koropi and Chania data centers comprise the perfectly monitored facilities where our clients can co-locate their IT and telecommunications equipment.

Using N+1 system back-up throughout each building, our facilities have been designed and built to meet the most advanced international standards, in accordance with NEBS requirements (Network Equipment Building Standards).

Electrical Supply

Two high voltage sources from two separate power transformers
Electrical supply connection exceeds 1KVA/m2
Diesel UPS back-up systems composed of 2 CPS (Continuous Power supply) with an output of 1000 KVA each, enabling continuous work during a power outage (including the air-conditioning system)
Double DC power feed for equipment A+B and an Automatic Static Transfer Switch (ASTS) system option for equipment with single feed.
Installation of 1 OHM grounding systems with up to 30 MHz frequency for servers and communication switches. HP filtering for HF currents.
Electro-mechanical SLA is 99,999%

Air Conditioning systems

Direct venting to all IDC areas via raised floors (Liebert units, 350.000 btu)
Designed to operate in extreme conditions
Temperatures can be individually monitored and controlled
A temperature of 220C±1o is preserved at all times as well as a humidity of 50% ±10%. These conditions guarantee an SLA of 99,99%.

Fire detection and extinguishing systems
Our fire detection systems are based on local sampling units, located in the service areas and workrooms. In the event of a fire, the FM200 gas detection and extinguishing system is initiated. In the event of a gas system failure, this system can be put into operation by hand. In a very unlikely worst case scenario, a back-up “dry” water based system goes into service. The structure meets fire-proofing standards for up to four hours of fire.

Monitoring and control system
The BMS (Building Management System) monitoring and control system allows complete control over all building systems (electricity, air-conditioning, fire detection and extinguishing). The monitoring system operates 24 hours per day, utilizing various sensors located throughout the building to immediately detect any malfunction.

A Guarantee of security
All buildings are equipped with market-leading security systems providing entry control and intrusion detection, guaranteeing round the clock protection. Admission and exits to workrooms and servers are monitored by a central system utilizing “smart cards”, biometric cameras and other devices.

Technical support and customer services
We offer the benefits of consistent and reliable customer services from the planning and installation stages up to final implementation and provide continuous technical support throughout.
